As the first blog post for HIMC, we would like to give you all a warm welcome and introduction to our competition. With our global pandemic and widespread grievances for the injustices of the world, music is now more important than ever in order to raise our spirits in times of crisis. Music unites people- it brings people from many different backgrounds, situations, and identities together. In creating the Houston International Music Competition, our team hopes to not only virtually bring music to people during quarantine, but also to motivate and lift the spirits of our young artists.
To all the young artists- we hope that this competition gives you all an opportunity for preparing a high-quality performance in a time of quarantine and isolation. HIMC is a community that supports and encourages artists to challenge oneself musically and creatively. No matter the outcome of this competition, we are proud of each and every one of you for simply putting in the hard work to become the best musician you can be.
The Houston International Music Competition encourages all young artists from the ages of 7 to 18 playing orchestral instruments and piano to apply. All application materials are due at 11:59 PM on November 29th. Good luck, and, especially in times like these, stay safe and healthy!
